Foundations of Digital Marketing and E-commerce ✏️
Foundations of Digital Marketing and E-commerce
- Let's start with what is e-commerce? Anything under buying or selling goods or services comes under e-commerce.
- There are usually 4 types of products:
1. Physical products
2. Digital products
3. Services
4. Software
- What is digital marketing: When you reach consumers of the internet through digital channels and then try to make those consumers your customers, that practice is called digital marketing.
- Digital channel: Communication method or platform a business can use to reach its target audience online. Like Instagram and Facebook, these are a few digital channels.
- Digital marketing is so much better than traditional marketing, here is why:
1. Digital marketing is cost-effective. You don't need a lot of money to start.
2. You can reach more people
3. Faster results
4. Build relations with customers
- When a customer buys something online, then every aspect of his/her journey to buy something is important.
- Skills required for digital marketing:
1. Curiosity
2. Analytical Mindset
3. Storytelling
(I think I have an advantage here because I have visual skills like video editing, design, and all)
- There are many ways to do digital marketing (SEO, affiliate marketing, email marketing, content marketing). Social media is just one among many of them.
- Abandoned cart: When customers put items in a cart, but they don't buy it.
- Business categories:
1. B2C - Laptos, mobiles, shampoo, soap
2. B2B - Saas
3. C2C - Amazon, eBay
4. C2B - Upwork
5. B2A (administration) - When the government buys something from a business
5. C2A - Electricity bill payment
Digital marketing is faster, cheaper, and more precise, but the space is so crowded that marketers have to keep up with the latest technology & customer behavior, and they have to make unique campaigns.
Sales are just an aspect of marketing, marketing is about building trust with people, making them come and make purchases again & again.
- Identity traits to keep in mind, when you're marketing or advertising.
1. Race
2. Socioeconomic status
3. Age
4. Ability
5. Gender
6. Sexual orientation
7. Religion
8. Geographic location
9. Culture
10. Political perspective
11. Military status -- I guess in India, it doesn't matter
12. Languages spoken
- Inclusive Marketing:
- Maintaining a broader perspective of your audience will help you establish a deeper connection with your customers.
